How to starve terrorism on the homegrown vine,
In just a few easy steps.
• Sheldon Packer
We must understand that terrorism is a tactic resorted to by desperate peoples most often living in the most heart rendering situations. For example: Oppressed and persecuted groups with little access to means of political expression, or power sharing. Slave rebellions, Anarchists in the XIX the. Century, The Irish, Basques in Spain, Algerians, the French Resistance, Jews before the Israeli State was formed and even Americans during both their War for Independence and Civil War engaged in acts of terror.
The histories of these events were not chronicled by the actors but by winners of the conflicts, so that in the words of the old African proverb ”Until the lions have their own historians, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter””.
People who engage in terrorism often call themselves patriots, revolutionaries, freedom fighters and liberators, never “terrorists”, because terrorism itself is not an ideology but a means to an end. Through terrorism revolutionaries intend to force the hand of the power they are attacking, so that it will turn its repressive forces against its own people, forcing the people to rise up and overthrow their own government.
Better understanding of the history of peoples and their way of life, how their customs, beliefs etc. affect their daily existence through empathy or the ability to walk in another’s shoes is necessary so that we can see and feel another’s struggle not through the streotype constructed cocoons that the media has shaped in our environment, but through empirical evidence.
We must help these folks find economical and social balance through political solutions that work for their society and not that of “outsiders”. When people can live and work without the dread of fear, or instant annihilation they will have no need for desperate action and will not participate in terror tactics.
Today the way of stopping organizations from using fear and intimidation on the world stage is the same as it’s always been. We only have to look at:
How investigative technique has had a more potent success rate in stopping the action of worldwide criminals
You can use a sledgehammer to kill a mosquito. Yes! You might even
Eventually kill him but look at the destruction along the way. This does not work in a cost benefit analysis. There are limits to power
An answer to what to do is easy if we use the appropriate international channels!
1) More communication among police and intelligence services in the international arena based on International laws and conventions,
2) Establishing an International Intelligence force to directly work on seeking and thwarting worldwide criminal groups who attempts to disrupt and kill on the international stage.
3) Create an international Special Forces Team to use in surgical strikes
When intelligence and governmental sources find actionable intelligence on forces or individuals of interest massed in extreme locations in which regular operations cannot be conducted.
4) Fund them adequately.
5) Create an appropriate environment and the means for true Diplomatic engagement in which the Peace Brokers are completely neutral.
Simply, if you want to stop terrorism in our lifetime you must stop, look, and listen with a new understanding that people want to live a simple life with family and friends by their side. It’s time for nations to do the same.
We must as group help bring this understanding to the forefront.
Our initial focus must be in producing a progressive majority or at least work with a majority of Democrats in congress. Find Progressive ideas to end world misery. To bring about Economic healthy environment where we can find peace thru progress…
What is our hoped-for improved outcome (fostering Iraqi self-determination, a shift from military-based solutions to diplomacy-based solutions, restore US respect, give a voice to oppressed peoples and nations with grievances, etc), so that our troops will not have sacrificed in vain? All these things will be accomplished .when we implement real understanding in society.
